H.F Holnicote House
SELWORTHY APRIL 2013
Once again, thanks to Margaret Baxter's hard work, we have had a thoroughly enjoyable holiday at Holnicote House. Despite the weather not mirroring the T-shirts and shorts gear of 2012, being more necessary to don even more layers than usual, the walks were memorable.
There were days when the sun shone and this added to the beauty of the sea and moors, seeing the antics of young lambs and the sparkling of the sun on the sea, particularly at the Valley of the Rocks.
As usual, the Leaders were excellent which added to the friendliness which everyone enjoyed.
When asked, those I spoke to were unanimous about the excellence of the hosts at the house,
the accommodation and the food.
One unforgettable memory is of the icicles seen in hedgerows and on grassy banks, another is of the walks being practically mud free - one walker boasted of the fact that she had not had to clean her boots the whole week - an added bonus on a walking holiday.
Some of the members did their own thing by visiting local beauty spots, using their own transport and combining the outing with local strolls. It was good to see Peter Fry out and about again. One lady was very grateful to join the alternative holidaymakers when her concentrating on something else led to her missing the coach for the walk.
The enjoyment didn't end when the walk ended, after an excellent supper there were various entertainments put on, quizzes, solo performances and an excerpt from Cindrella on the last night. Another unforgettable memory with the gentlemen wearing wigs and ladies clothes.
